“Brand New” 21-Year-Old G-Wagon Hits the Auction Block

“Brand New” 21-Year-Old G-Wagon Hits the Auction Block

A rare example of the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon has just hit the auction block in the form of a 21-year-old, 292 horsepower, 5.0-liter V8, G500, that only has 1,200 miles on it — making the vehicle practically brand new and providing a sort of time-capsule for one lucky bidder.

The quintessential example is finished in an all-over gloss black, with very minimal chrome accents, as well as a black-over-black leather interior, featuring wood grain accents on the steering wheel, center console and passenger grab bar.

Technical aspects include a five-speed automatic transmission, dual-range transfer case and three locking differentials. The vehicle also features top spec equipment from its era, including 18” five-spoke alloy wheels, ESP systems, headlight washers, rear parking sensors, heated seats, “COMAND” infotainment, a sunroof and more.

Next to the 140-mph speedometer and tachometer that redlines at 6k rpms is quite possibly the most impressive aspect of the vehicle — its odometer, which features an astonishingly low 1,200-mile count.

As one user commented on the auction site “The w463’s and FZJ80s were the ‘last of the bests’. With this auction, the buyer gets to time-travel and pick one of these up new.”

At the time of writing, the auction for the “brand new” 2002 G-Wagon has seven days left on it and is at a current highest bid of $25,000 USD.
