Ben Savage, who rose to fame as a child actor on the sitcom Boy Meets World, is making a bid for Congress. The actor filed papers with the Federal Election Commission declaring his intent to run for a seat in California’s 30th District, according to Deadline.
The seat Savage, who is a registered Democrat, is angling for is held by Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Burbank.
Though a formal announcement has yet to be made, Schiff is expected to run for current U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein’s seat. Feinstein also has yet to make a statement regarding her political future, but the move would open up Schiff’s seat for Savage’s bid.
Savage previously ran an unsuccessful campaign for a seat on the West Hollywood City Council last year. The actor obtained a degree in political science from Stanford University and interned with U.S. Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA) in 2003 as part of the program’s requirements.
From 1993 to 2000, Savage played Cory Matthews on Boy Meets World. He returned to the role in the spin-off series Girl Meets World, playing an adult version of Matthews, from 2014 to 2017.
