Bon Iver’s new single has arrived. Equipped with extended spacing and all, the new cut is entitled “S P E Y S I D E” and marks the start of Justin Vernon‘s first Bon Iver project in over five years, SABLE.
SABLE, dropping next month, is slated to consist of three tracks, including “S P E Y S I D E.” The EP’s triptych of songs, per an official press release, were all written between the years of 2020 and 2023, recorded outside of Vernon’s hometown in April Base, Wisconsin, and “conceived” in places such as Key West, Florida and the Isles of Minneapolis.
On “S P E Y S I D E,” it’s Vernon’s vocals, with viola from Rob Moose and additional production from Jim-E Stack that all work together to immerse listeners in Vernon’s new Bon Iver world, crooning introspective lines like “I know now that I can’t make good, how I wish I could,” on the chorus.
Per a press release, SABLE signals “a space for Vernon to unpack the darkness, pressure and anxiety that amounted to one of the most trying periods of his life,” – all of which are themes he introduces through the lyrics and composition of “S P E Y S I D E.”
