BMW Shares Closer Look at New Entry-Level M2 Racing Model

BMW M Motorsport unveiled its latest entry-level racer, first teased in August, the BMW M2 Racing. Showcased at the DTM season finale in Hockenheim, the car also faced its first test in the demanding Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) on the Nordschleife, nicknamed the “Green Hell.”

Based on the BMW M2 production model, the BMW M2 Racing is designed to meet the needs of entry-level motorsport with modifications geared toward affordability and performance. The vehicle completed its four-hour test race on the Nordschleife under the FK Performance Motorsport Team, driven by BMW M works drivers Max Hesse and Jens Klingmann. Notably, the car performed across 27 laps in varied weather conditions.

Björn Lellmann, Head of Customer Racing at BMW M Motorsport, expressed satisfaction with the debut, stating that the test marked a significant step in development. Hesse and Klingmann praised the car’s drivability and highlighted the successful data collection, which will inform future tests.

Fans at Hockenheim got a first look at the new design, featuring playful “Easter Eggs” of racetrack outlines, while the test car donned a camouflage livery for its Nürburgring debut. Further testing is planned for 2025, with the model set for customer use by the 2026 season.
