MTV on Monday shared a fresh slate of performers for its upcoming Video Music Awards this month, revealing that South Korean all-girl group Blackpink will make its U.S. award show debut with a performance of their soon-to-be-released track “Pink Venom.”
The new single, which is scheduled to arrive on August 19 and land on Blackpink’s upcoming sophomore studio record Born Pink, will mark the chart-topping group’s first release in almost two years. In celebration of their sixth anniversary last week, Blackpink dropped off two sets of pre-single posters for “Pink Venom” and announced that their forthcoming full-length effort will arrive on September 19. Additionally, the group announced a global tour in support of Born Pink, which kicks off in Seoul on October 15.
Notably, Blackpink, which consists of members Lisa, Jennie, Rosé and Jisoo, made history as the first K-pop girl group to win a VMA for their popular track “How You Like That.” This year, Lisa, whose full name is Lalisa Manobal, is nominated as a solo artist for the 2022 iteration of her debut single, “Lalisa,” which was first released last year.
MTV also disclosed that Jack Harlow, Lizzo and Måneskin have been added to this year’s performance roster, alongside previously announced artists J Balvin, Anitta, Panic! At the Disco and Marshmello x Khalid.
The 38th MTV Video Music Awards will take place in person at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on August 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
