Joining Icon of the Year, Michelle Yeoh, and Athlete of the Year, Aaron Judge, BLACKPINK have been named TIME magazine’s 2022 Entertainer of the Year. Marking the supergroup’s international stardom, the girls serve as the second K-pop act to earn the title, following BTS which earned the honor back in 2018.
BLACKPINK is currently continuing the success of their second studio album, Born Pink, and gearing up to launch a European and Asia tour of the same name from December into early 2023.
Aside from a special cover showing the global superstars, TIME put together a retrospective of the group’s achievements since bursting into the music scene in 2016. Jennie, Lisa, Rosé, and Jisoo also shared their reflection on the development of BLACKPINK into a pervasive global force and offer insight on their fame. “We put in a lot of work so we could look like superwomen,” said Jennie. “We’re very normal girls, at the end of the day.” The in-depth is accompanied by a dreamy photo look at the girls set in scenes of flowers, cars, and more, shot by lauded photographer Petra Collins.
