Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Gets First Trailer

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Gets First Trailer

The sequel to Black Panther—Ryan Coogler’s Oscar-nominated superhero film based on the Marvel comic—has received its first trailer. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever features many of the actors who starred in the original 2018 film, such as Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Angela Bassett as Ramonda,  Winston Duke as M’Baku, Letitia Wright as Shuri, and more. The film hits theaters November 11. Watch the trailer below.

The teaser was revealed during Marvel’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con last night. Marvel’s YouTube page also teased something called “Wakanda Forever Prologue – New Music Releases July 25,” although full soundtrack details have not been released.

In August 2019 it was reported that the film would be released May 22, 2022. Chadwick Boseman, who played the Black Panther/King T’Challa in Black Panther and several Avengers films, died later that month at 43 years old due to colon cancer. It is not yet clear who will replace Boseman in the lead role, however the trailer ends with a shot of someone in the Black Panther suit. The trailer also includes a brief visual of a billboard featuring a painted tribute to King T’Challa.

A wildly successful film, Black Panther grossed $700 million in the U.S., becoming the highest-grossing Marvel movie of all time—domestically—prior to being unseated by Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Black Panther was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The film took home three Oscar awards: for Best Original Music Score (penned by Ludwig Göransson), Costume Design, and Production Design.

Kendrick Lamar curated and produced the soundtrack to the first Black Panther film, which featured SZA, Travis Scott, the Weeknd, Future, James Blake, Swae Lee, and others.
