Kathleen Hanna will be coming out with a memoir detailing her childhood, adult life and career in the punk music scene. Out in May 2024, the Bikini Kill singer’s book is entitled Rebel Girl: My Life as a Feminist Punk, taking its name from one of the band’s biggest hits.
Rebel Girl will follow Hanna’s upbringing in Oregon, her first introductions to feminism, meeting her eventual bandmates and her struggle with Lyme disease. It’ll also chart the formation of the punk rock band Bikini Kill in the early 90s and Hanna’s later project, the electronic band Le Tigre.
The book will offer insight into the singer’s friendships with contemporaries Kurt Cobain and Ian MacKaye and her relationship with her now-husband, the Beastie Boys guitarist Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz.
Presently, Hanna releases music with the band Julie Ruin. Her last album was 2016’s Hit Reset.
Kathleen Hanna’s Rebel Girl: My Life as a Feminist Punk is out on May 14, 2024.
