Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar Lead the 2023 Grammy Nominations

The Recording Academy on Tuesday revealed the nominees for the 2023 Grammy Awards.

Leading the way, Beyoncé earned nine nominations, three of which are in the Big Four categories. Renaissance is nominated for album of the year, and “Break My Soul” is up for both record and song of the year. She also picked up nods for best dance/electronic recording (“Break My Soul”), best dance/electronic music album (Renaissance), best R&B performance (“Virgo’s Groove”), best traditional R&B performance (“Plastic Off the Sofa”), best R&B song (“Cuff It”) and best song written for visual media (“Be Alive”).

Trailing closely behind, Kendrick Lamar received eight total nominations. He’s also up for record and song of the year with “The Heart Part 5” and album of the year for Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers. Elsewhere, Lamar’s “The Heart Part 5” is nominated for best rap performance, best rap song and best music video. Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers also earned a nod for best rap album, marking Lamar’s fourth consecutive album to be nominated for both album of the year and best rap album.

Adele and Brandi Carlile each nabbed seven nods. The former artist received nominations for Record of the Year (“Easy on Me”), Album of the Year (30), Song of the Year (“Easy on Me”), Best Pop Solo Performance (“Easy on Me”), Best Pop Vocal Album (30), Best Music Video (“Easy on Me”) and Best Music Film (Adele One Night Only). Notably, the 2023 Grammys will be the first time Beyoncé and Adele have gone head-to-head for record, album and song of the year since 2017.

Elsewhere, Future, Harry Styles, Mary J. Blige, DJ Khaled, Terius “The-Dream” Gesteelde-Diamant and Randy Merrill all picked up six nominations. Additionally, JAY-Z, who received five nods, is now tied with Beyoncé as the most-nominated artist in Grammys history, as both have earned 88 nods across their careers.

The 2023 Grammy Awards will be presented on Sunday, February 5, at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena. See the full list of nominees on the Grammys’ website.
