As the week in music comes to a close, HYPEBEAST has rounded up the best projects for the latest installment of Best New Tracks.
This week brings together industry veterans with emerging artists. Brockhampton released back-to-back albums, The Family and TM, while YSL Records’ Yung Kayo dropped the new single “150.” Benny Sings and Kenny Beats teamed up for an exciting explosion of production and lyricism on new song “The World” and PinkPantheress kept it chill on the track “Do you miss me?”
Yung Kayo – “150”

YSL Records signee Yung Kayo shared the first cut from his upcoming project, Nineteen. Following his widely-celebrated debut album DFTK, the first song from the roll out of his new endeavor intertwines hyperpop-style production with Kayo’s unique rap-yelling sound.

Brockhampton – The Family

For months, Brockhampon has been teasing The Family as the final album they’ll release before going on an indefinite hiatus. In a surprising move, albeit typical for the unorthodox music collective, the band decided to follow-up on The Family with yet another LP, TM, released just a day later. “All That” stands apart from other tracks on The Family, with lighter and simpler production against Brockhampton’s usual eclectic style.

Benny Sings x Kenny Beats – “The World”

Benny Sings and Kenny Beats first teamed up last year on Benny’s album Beat Tape Vol. 2. The duo joined forces once again on Kenny’s debut album Louie. On “The World,” Benny and Kenny bring together a combination of elevated songwriting with exciting production for an upbeat pop track.

PinkPantheress – “Do you miss me?”

Produced by Kaytranada and phil, PinkPantheress’ latest single will make any listener want to hit the dance floor. Opening with punchy, rhythmic production, the singer cuts the through the beat with her distinct sultry and breathy vocals.

Cigarettes After Sex – “Pistol”

As fans eagerly await the news of a third LP from the Texas band, Cigarettes After Sex is keeping them on their toes with the new song “Pistol.” True to the band’s sound, the hazy track leads with the poetic and lovesick musings of Greg Gonzalez.

Roddy Ricch x Lil Durk – “Twin”

A cut from Roddy Ricch’s latest studio album, Feed Tha Streets 3, Lil Durk assists in one of only two features on the entire 15-track LP. Produced by Aaron Bow, Byrd and Teddy Walton, the rappers drop bars about the brotherhood they share and Durk calls for the freedom of the currently-incarcerated Pooh Shiesty.

Gucci Mane – “Letter to Takeoff”

This solemn song hears Gucci Mane pay tribute to the late Migos rapper Takeoff. Alongside memorializing his friend and collaborator, Mane calls attention to the violence within the rap scene that has led to the deaths of several artists over the recent years.

Kelela – “On the Run”

In tandem with announcing Raven, her first album in six years, Kelela gave fans their first taste of the LP, which will be out in February, with new single “On the Run.” “I started this process from the feeling of isolation and alienation I’ve always had as a black femme in dance music, despite its Black origins,” Kelela said about the forthcoming LP. “Raven is my first breath taken in the dark, an affirmation of Black femme perspective in the midst of systemic erasure and the sound of our vulnerability turned to power.”
