Despite expressing multiple times that he’d be retiring his role from the DCEU, Ben Affleck has now been confirmed to return as Batman once again in the upcoming Aquaman sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
While Warner Bros. and DC Comics have kept Affleck’s appearance in the film tightly under wraps up till now, the news was actually broken by Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, who took to Instagram to post a selfie of him and Affleck together at the Warner Bros. studio lot. “REUNITED bruce and arthur. love u and miss u Ben,” the actor captioned. “WB studio tours just explored the backlot alright busted on set all great things coming AQUAMAN 2 all my aloha J.”
Momoa explained that fans had already caught a glimpse of Affleck’s Batman during a studio tour, so it wasn’t a secret anymore that he’d be returning as the Caped Crusader for the coming sequel. “It’s not a f*cking secret anymore, is it?” he said in a video on Instagram. “That’s what happens, Warner Brothers, when you walk out of your set and there’s our fans.”
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is slated to hit theaters March 17, 2023.
Elsewhere in entertainment, Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton has been confirmed to helm Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
