Barry Keoghan is officially joining the cast of Netflix‘s Peaky Blinder film starring Cillian Murphy and Rebecca Ferguson. Currently, both Keoghan and Ferguson’s roles are kept under wraps but Deadline has reported that the greenlit Peaky feature will see Murphy return as the iconic role of Tommy Shelby, the notorious leader of Birmingham’s gangster family.
The multi-award-winning series creator Steven Knight is slated to produce the film alongside Murphy, Caryn Mandabach and Guy Heeley. Executive producers include director Tom Harper with David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren and David Mason. So far, Knight nor Harper have revealed the plot details, though Knight has previously eluded that the film would be set during World War II with production expected to begin this year.
Keoghan has quite the career so far, recently receiving a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination and winning a BAFTA for Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin as well as for Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn. He is also in Apple TV+’s limited series Masters of the Air and premiered Andrea Arnold’s Bird at Cannes Film Festival. He is slated to attend the Toronto International Film Festival for Bring Them Down early next month.
