Barcelona are prepared to offload Philippe Coutinho to Newcastle United in the January transfer window, according to reports.
The 29-year-old failed to live up to the expectations after his £140 million move to the Catalans from Liverpool in 2018.
Since his arrival in Spain, has made 101 appearances across all competitions for the La Liga side, scoring 24 goals and creating 14 assists in the process (stats from Transfermarkt).
Now he has been linked with a return to England, with the Magpies reportedly interested to secure his signature.
Newcastle underwent a £300m takeover from a Saudi-backed consortium and now they have the richest owners in the Premier League.
The Tyneside club are expected to make some heavy investments in the upcoming transfer window to bolster their ranks for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.
According to SPORT, Barcelona are prepared to accept a loan offer for Philippe Coutinho that includes a mandatory option to buy.
The Spanish giants recently sacked Ronald Koeman after he failed to deliver results at Camp Nou. They are now expected to appoint former Barca midfielder Xavi Hernandez as their new manager.
Coutinho has made 11 appearances so far this season, earning a goal to his name in the match against Valencia.
However, interim boss Sergi Barjaun didn’t feature him off the bench in Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League.
And as per SPORT, he is unlikely to be a part of Xavi’s plans.
