Bandai Namco Announces ‘One Piece Odyssey’

In celebration of the iconic manga and anime’s 25th-anniversary, Bandai Namco Entertainment has now announced a new video game based on One Piece.

Named One Piece Odyssey, the new title will be a JRPG developed by ILCA, the same studio behind Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. With original creator Eiichiro Oda on board as character designer and Dark Souls composer Motoi Sakuraba in charge of music, the game puts players in the shoes of Straw Hats pirate captain Monkey D. Luffy, who sets off to rescue and reunite the rest of his crew who have become stranded on a mysterious island.

Apart from the notorious captain, you’ll also be able to play as a whole roster of other beloved characters from the franchise, including Nami, Zoro, Sanji, Frankie, Robin, Brook, Chopper, and Usopp throughout the game’s various levels. “I have been thinking that one of the most fascinating points of One Piece is the adventure,” producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki said earlier in an interview. “I thought that a JRPG project offering a One Piece adventure experience like never before would be very interesting. We asked Oda for his advice, and he designed the characters and monsters to vitalize the in-game One Piece world.”

Now available for pre-order for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, you can learn more about One Piece Odyssey over on Bandai Namco Entertainment’s website.

Elsewhere in gaming, Call of Duty: Vanguard is going free-to-play for a limited time.
