Atari has become the latest gaming company to join in on the NFT craze.
Working in partnership with metaverse developer Republic Realm, the classic game brand has now launched a series of NFT loot boxes it calls “GFT” (for Gifts). Each of the boxes will contain one of 10 images inspired by its retro titles, but unlike regular video game loot boxes, the Atari GFTs will open and unveil their contents on a later, specified date instead of upon purchase.
“The Atari brand is synonymous with video games, and video gaming is the backbone of the metaverse,” said Atari CEO Wade Rosen. “What better way to commemorate Atari’s 50th anniversary than by ushering in a new era of technological innovation while also honoring the brand that launched the modern video game industry?”
For those interested, the Atari GFTs will launch on February 1 over on the GFTshoppe.
In other related news, CASETiFY will now let you verify and display your NFTs in your phone case.
