The song is a new version of Atomic Kitten’s No. 1 from 2001 “Whole Again,” featuring new vocals from bandmate Jenny Frost, who last performed with the group 13 years ago.
“It’s been a whirlwind couple of days, but we are super excited and grateful to be able to contribute to the awesome energy and patriotism that is filling the England streets with this version of ‘Whole Again,’ comments band members Frost, Natasha Hamilton and Liz McClarnon.
“Southgate You’re The One” is “totally inspired by the England football fans in support of Gareth Southgate and the super talented England football team, we will be singing loud and proud ‘Football’s Coming Home.’”
The song dropped ahead of England’s 2-1 semi-final win Wednesday (July 7) against Denmark, which propels the 3 Lions into the final of the pan-European soccer championship for the very first time.
Atomic Kitten landed 13 U.K. Top 10 hits in the late ‘90s and 2000s, including leaders with “Whole Again,” “Eternal Flame” and “The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling).”
Football fever is sweeting the streets of England, and the charts, where a string of soccer-themed songs are on the climb.
The anthem “3 Lions” (Epic) by David Baddiel, Frank Skinner and The Lightning Seeds leads the celebration with a return to the Top 10 on the midweek chart, while “Vindaloo” by Fat Les, New Order’s former chart-leader “World In Motion” (London), Krept & Konan’s “Olé (We Are England ’21)” (via Since 93) and Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” (MCA) are all rolling with the good times.
