Artsy and the Ian Parry Scholarship Fund are working together to auction off a lot of 160 one-of-a-kind pieces from some of the world’s most celebrated photographers.
Founded by Aiden Sullivan, the fund was made to honor his friend and The Sunday Times colleague, Ian Parry, an iconic British photojournalist who was killed while covering the 1989 Romanian Revolution. Championing the craft for a new generation of photographers, the auction will feature work from the likes of David Bailey, Susan Meiselas, Martin Parr, Trevor Paglen, Alec Soth, Tom Stoddart, Chloe Dewe Mathews, Vanessa Winship and Linda McCartney and more.
To enter, you must either be attending a full-time photographic course or are under the age of 24. Winners will receive $3,500 USD toward a project of their choice, a portfolio review from a panel of experts, along with the opportunity to take part in the Transmissions Programme at the Visa Pour L’Image in Perpignan and have their work featured in The Sunday Times Magazine.
With the advent of ‘fake news,’ Sullivan and fellow trustees hope that the public will rally around the scholarship “to help us ensure the future of this important profession, of authentic journalism.” Each photograph is signed by the photgrapher and will be available for bidding from November 11 to 24.
