Arthur Gunn continues to win hearts with his impressive American Idol run. But there’s one person who has always been in his corner: his mom.
During Sunday’s Mother’s Day edition, Gunn delivered another standout performance with a cover of Bon Iver’s “Hey, Ma,” as his mom looked on.
The Kathmandu, Nepal-born artist’s matured vocals had judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan suitably gobsmacked.
“You’re spoiling us,” Bryan enthused afterwards. “You never have a bad performance.”
Richie chimed in, “You could actually sing the phone book. And when I say that, I mean it as a compliment.” There’s much more to come. “Enjoy the ride,” the veteran singer said, “it’s going to be a great journey.”
Perry, looking happy and heavily pregnant, told the contestant: “You’re starting to really make me believe that you’re a professional touring music. It was great.”
This 18th season of Idol has a new look about it, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. All the judges and the top 11 contenders are back in their homes, getting the job done from their bedrooms, backyards and living rooms.
