In 2019, Ithaca Holdings, Braun’s former holding company that included SB Projects, acquired Big Machine Label Group, subsequently purchasing the masters to Taylor Swift’s first six albums. The following year, he sold her discography to an investment fund for around $300 million. The deal, which Swift described as her “worst case scenario,” inspired her to commit to one of the most groundbreaking acts in recent music industry history: re-record her first six albums in order to own her music herself, thereby standing in complete control of her finances and the way her music is used.  Her next re-recording, 1989 (Taylor’s Version)arrives October 27th.
