Check out the first trailer for the next go-round.
Are you ready for season four of The Masked Singer? Because the trailer for the next go-round of TV’s wildest singing competition show just dropped and it’s full of clues that are as cryptic as ever. Seriously. While we don’t get a glimpse of any of the elaborate costumes on tap, there are a series of confounding images that scrawl across the screen like a red-string theory in a conspiracy film, including a queen bee, firecrackers, the tragedy and comedy masks, an alien spaceship, two hotel keys, a yin-yang, a picture of mushrooms, a baseball mitt with a giant diamond in it and two pairs of mirrored sunglasses.
And while Nick Cannon’s voice is heard intoning “This is The Masked Singer!” in voiceover, the embattled host is not seen alongside the show’s judges in the 30-second teaser, which dropped just weeks after Cannon was fired by ViacomCBS following anti-Semitic comments he made in a podcast interview; Fox has said it will stand by Cannon despite his comments after entering into a “dialogue” with the actor/radio host/comedian following his apology for the widely rebuked statements.
We also get short glimpses of judges Nicole Scherzinger and Jenny McCarthy getting excited about reveals in the preview, as well as always-wrong Ken Jeong dropping one of his signature “I know exactly who this is” gems.
Other clues in the sneak include a judge’s gavel, a purple bowtie, a red maple leaf and the number 11 scrawled twice on a piece of paper. While he doesn’t get a speaking part, judge Robin Thicke is also expected back for the next season, which is slated to launch in September. At press time it was unclear how the production would move forward in the wake of filming restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
