Arcadia — a new platform that bridges traditional athleticism and gaming with the limitless world of virtual reality — is gearing up to broadcast a competition series that exists completely inside its own futuristic, digital realm.
“Arcadia is basically the world’s first stadium-size mixed reality arena where athletes get to replace avatars in these large-scale games where they’re free to run around and compete against each other in these super sports that only we’ve built,” said Chris Olimpo, co-founder and CEO fo Arcadia, in the company’s launch trailer. “We’re getting ready to broadcast these games to global audiences, and it’s going to be a spectacle unlike anything you’ve seen before. It’s basically TRON, for real.”
Mimicking the sleek, cutting-edge nature of the beloved sci-fi adventure film, the experience allows players to engage in unique esports competitions inside a massive, 10,000-square-foot VR arena that syncs physical and digital spaces with its inside-out proprietary tracking technology, called Samos Arena.
Later this year, Arcadia will begin its search for pro athletic gamers through a six-city tour, dubbed the “Arcadia Trials,” who will be able to compete for their chance to be named the first-ever Arcadia Champion. In the months prior, gamers and athletes across North America will be able to vote for Arcadia to host one of its trials in their hometown, so they can engage in the platform’s innovative technology on their home turf.
“We’re going to find the world’s first Arcadia champion,” Olimpo added. “We’re going to have try outs, competitions and we’re going to broadcast it all for the world to see.”
Following the trials, viewers will be able to watch competing athlete-gamers through either a full arena stream or an individual athlete’s POV screen across the company’s various digital platforms, all under the moniker Arcadia.TV.
Those who believe they have what it takes to take home to Arcadia Champion crown can head to Arcadia’s website to nominate their city to host the Arcadia Trials on the company’s website. Further details will become available on Arcadia’s Instagram.
