Apple’s New MacBook Patents Could Revolutionize Its Design

Apple’s New MacBook Patents Could Revolutionize Its Design

Apple has filed a new round of patents for the MacBook that could revolutionize the iconic laptop series’ design. According to new reports, the patents cover everything from the construction of the laptop’s body itself to the different tech features it’ll carry.

MacBook models currently boast a machined aluminum body, but some of the patents the tech giant has filed turn to more explorative materials such as glass and ceramic. It also says it’s looking into using more transparent dielectric materials in order to great a “continuous or seamless input surface,” essentially turning the entire keyboard side into a giant touchpad.

Newer patents build on this and include an “extended touchbar” that reaches all the way around the keyboard for more convenience, while a built-in wireless charger can keep your iPhone powered up throughout your day without needing any other external devices. Even the mechanical keyboard itself can be used to sense multi-touch inputs, essentially blurring the distinctions between laptop and tablet.

Of course, tech companies like Apple often file many patents that never make their way into production models for consumers, so fans will have to wait and see if the MacBook line will really get these new features in the future.

In other related news, Apple will soon let drivers pay for gas from inside their cars.
