Apple TV is currently preparing a bid to take overPremier League television rights in the UK.
As per a report in The Daily Mail, Apple’s potential bid would transform the way Premier League football is consumed throughout the UK.
Currently, the tech giant is looking to increase its live football coverage, having signed off a 10-year contract to broadcast Major League Soccer from next month — a deal that will cost Apple approximately $250 million USD per season.
The process to discover who will take over the next set of rights is set to begin later this year, with The Premier League’s current three-year deal with Sky Sports and BT Sport expiring in 2025.
This latest move from Apple is the biggest threat to Sky Sports’ dominance of Premier League coverage since the platform gained exclusive rights for the games in 1992. Apple has already expressed its interest in the league after making a documentary about the European Super League, named The War for Football, which was released last week.
