Apple Signs Exclusive Multi-Year Deal With Tom Hanks’ Production Company

Apple Signs Exclusive Multi-Year Deal With Tom Hanks’ Production Company

Apple TV+ has signed an exclusive multi-year deal with Tom Hanks and Gary Geotzman’s multiple-award-winning production company Playtone. Under the agreement, the companies will partner on developing, producing and distributing all forms of television, including series, limited series, documentaries and unscripted projects.

The partnership expands on Apple’s pre-existing relationship with Playtone, which was first formed in 2019 when the two companies joined forces with Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Television on Masters of the Air, a follow-up series to Band of Brothers and The Pacific. The series “follows the true, deeply personal story of the American bomber boys in World War II who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep,” according to a release.

Additionally, Apple Original Films’ Academy Award-nominated film Greyhound, written by and starring Hanks, currently lives on Apple TV+. The actor is set to star in an upcoming sequel, though details on the project are scarce at this time.

Playtone’s previous television productions have received six Emmy Awards for Outstanding Miniseries or Movie, four Golden Globe Awards for Best Mini Series or Motion Picture Made for Television and five Peabody Awards. Meanwhile, Goetzman and Hanks have received the PGA’s Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television.
