Apple Music is giving listeners a new way to engage with their favorite tracks and artists. Launching later this month, the forthcoming Apple Music Sing, true to its name, allows users to sing along using a variety of tools such as adjustable vocals and real-time lyrics.
While Apple Music already offers lyrics to the millions of songs in its catalog, the new feature presents multiple lyrics views — from lead vocals to duets to backup — letting everyone join in on the fun in a different way.
Lyrics are animated and dance along with the rhythm of the track, adding to the karaoke experience. Vocals that run simultaneously will be animated separately to avoid any potential lyric mixups.
From there, Sing users can adjust vocals to their desired level, choose to sing solo or along with the original artist and even mash up multiple singles.
“Apple Music’s lyrics experience is consistently one of the most popular features on our service,” vice president of Apple Music and Beats Oliver Schusser said. “We already know our users all over the world love to follow along to their favorite songs, so we wanted to evolve this offering even further to enable even more engagement around music through singing. It’s really a lot of fun, our customers are going to love it.”
Sing will be available on iPhone, iPad, as well as the new Apple TV 4K, to Apple Music subscribers worldwide. In celebration of the launch, the app will debut a roster of 50 genre-spanning companion playlists that listeners won’t be able to help but sing along to, all optimized for the Sing experience.
