The most recent wave of Apple software updates are not the only change that users will be seeing. Reports have indicated that the tech company is hiking up its prices for Apple Music and Apple TV+ subscriptions.
Currently, Apple Music costs $11 USD per month for individual plans, an increase of $1 USD in the US. The per year cost for the Music subscription is $109 USD. The Family plan is now $17 USD per month as opposed to $15 USD, while Apple TV+ saw the greatest jump, increasing from $5 USD per month to $7 USD per month, where the per year charge went up from $50 USD to $69 USD.
The price increases also affect the Apple One bundles where users will now have to pay $17 USD per month for an Individual plan versus the previous $15 USD. Family users will now play for $23 USD per month instead of $20 USD while Premier customers are paying $33 USD per month in comparison to the $30 USD previously paid. An Apple spokesperson said in a statement that the price increases are due to licensing costs. The company argues that the more expensive plans will give artists and writers the ability to “earn more” from streaming music. The rise in price for Apple TV+ was justified by its growing catalog of offerings. While TV+ has increased its price, it is still more affordable than Amazon Prime Video and ad-free Netflix. Other competitors lik Disney+ and Hulu are planning on adding charges starting in December.
