Today, Apple announced its new HomePod, which brings enhanced features to the tech giant’s original smart speaker.
The second-generation product still harbors the name minimal design, which features a 100 percent recycled mesh fabric. However, the speaker comes in a new midnight colorway alongside the classic white option. Standout audio capabilities of the second-generation model include an improved motor, high-excursion woofer, built-in bass-EQ mic, five tweeters around the base and Apple’s S7 chip.
Alongside the improved audio design, the new HomePod also includes room-sensing technology that enables sound adaptability and precise directional control. Beyond the speaker’s audio capabilities, it includes enhanced Siri features, Sound Recognition which alerts users of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and a built-in temperature and humidity sensor.
Priced at $299 USD, the HomePod (2nd Generation) is available now for order online with a release date of Friday, February 3.
