Oscar-nominated actor Antonio Banderas is the newest addition to the Indiana Jones 5 cast. Banderas will co-star alongside Harrison Ford and joins an already stellar lineup, which includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Boyd Holbrook, Mads Mikkelsen, Shaunette Renée Wilson and Thomas Kretschmann.
The next installment in the Indiana Jones franchise has already begun production, with a slated release of July 29, 2022. Steven Spielberg, who directed the franchise’s first four films, has passed the torch to James Mangold, who is known for Logan, The Wolverine, Girl, Interrupted and Ford v. Ferrari. Although Spielberg is not serving as director this time around, he is producing the film alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel.
Banderas recently received his first-ever Oscar nomination for “Best Actor” in Pedro Almodóvar’s Pain and Glory, which was released in late 2019. Banderas is also known for his roles in The Mask of Zorro, Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!, Philadelphia, The Skin I Live In, Desperado, Evita and more.
In related film news, Uncut Gems is headed to the Criterion Collection.
