‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ Writer is “Surprised” by Negative Reviews

'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania' Writer is "Surprised" by Negative Reviews

Jeff Loveness, the screenwriter of Marvel‘s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was tasked with creating the film that kicked off Phase Five of the MCU. The film introduced a new villain, Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors, to fans and has been rated as one of the worst-reviewed Marvel films in history. It currently sits at 48% on Rotten Tomatoes and recently suffered one of MCU’s biggest-ever box office drops.

In a conversation with The Daily Beast, Loveness responded to the critical bashing, “To be honest, those reviews took me by surprise.” He added how taken aback he was and how it affected him, “I was in a pretty low spot…Those were not good reviews, and I was like, ‘What the…?’” Despite the poor reviews, Loveness stands by his work, “I’m really proud of what I wrote for Jonathan [Majors] and Michelle Pfeiffer [scientist Janet Pym]. I thought that was good stuff, you know? And so I was just despondent, and I was really sad about it.”

Loveness decided to go to a public screening to see if the negative reviews were true, but was in better spirits when he heard the audiences laughing along to the jokes he added to the script, “I’m like, ‘Goddamn! No, [the reviews] are wrong! I’m right! MODOK is great!” He added, “I’m pretty happy with it overall, and I think I learned how to take a punch this week. And now that I learned that it’s not too bad, I can just get on with making things.” Loveness is not letting the negative reviews affect hi anymore and will be continuing his partnership with Marvel to develop the script for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

In other entertainment news, Netflix has released the official trailer for Money Shot: The Pornhub Story.
