Anne Hathaway was pictured sitting on the front row at the Michael Kors show at New York Fashion Week on 14 Sept., and eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot the message behind her stylish outfit. Wearing a black turtleneck, brown croc-embossed leather jacket, and a matching leather miniskirt, all from Michael Kors, the ensemble bears a striking resemblance to the costume she wore playing Andrea Sachs in “The Devil Wears Prada“.
The 2006 blockbuster — which sees Hathaway play clueless intern Sachs, working at an intimidatingly well-known fashion magazine — is said to be based on several magazines, but it is widely believed Anna Wintour was the inspiration for the fictitious Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep. What makes this 2022 moment even more iconic is that Hathaway was sitting next to Wintour for the show in a moment where fiction meets reality. Serena Williams joined the pair at the show as well for a true meeting of fashion stars.
While Hathaway’s outfit isn’t an exact match for the one she wore in the film, which came out almost 16 years ago, it surely cannot be a coincidence that the brown ensemble made its way to the Frow. Completing her look with Christian Louboutin court shoes, the outfit, which was teamed with more casual jeans in the film, was given a chic, modern twist. Plus, Hathaway styled her hair in almost the exact same way with a ponytail and full fringe.
While her “The Devil Wears Prada” character might have been a fashion novice, the 39-year-old actress is most certainly not. Recently, Hathaway has been turning heads across the world wearing some incredible looks. From her sequinned Barbiecore minidress at the Valentino Haute Couture show in July to the navy leather embellished Gucci dress at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival in May, Miranda Priestley would certainly be proud.
Not only has Hathaway’s impeccable style continued to evolve throughout her career, something which she credits her stylist Erin Walsh for, Hathaway is becoming more sustainable and mindful about her wardrobe. Speaking ahead of the Michael Kors show, the star talked a bit about her new approach to fashion: “For me, you have to be able to live in your clothes, and this is a very wearable look without sacrificing any of the style . . . When I was a younger actress, a lot of the things I did were based in fear, wanting to do something right, and now I don’t mind doing things wrong. I don’t think I’ll fall apart, and the stakes don’t feel so high. So I’m dressing with a lot more gratitude and a lot more joy.” Ahead, see Hathaway’s full circle look.
