The critically acclaimed anthology series Star Wars: Visions prepares for an exciting return in 2025, recommitting to its anime roots. Announced during the 2024 Disney APAC Content Showcase, the upcoming collection will feature nine new animated shorts exploring the Star Wars universe through Japanese anime perspectives. Originally launched in 2021, the series initially presented nine original shorts from seven prominent Japanese anime studios, earning widespread praise for its innovative storytelling and unique cultural reinterpretations of the Star Wars mythology.
The 2023 second volume expanded the creative vision by embracing a global collaborative approach, incorporating studios from diverse regions including India, South Africa, Chile, and the United Kingdom. The upcoming 2025 lineup features a compelling mix of returning and new studios, including beloved contributors like Kamikaze Douga, Kinema Citrus Co., Production I.G, and TRIGGER. New participants include ANIMA (co-producing with Kamikaze Douga), David Production, Polygon Pictures, Project Studio Q, and WIT Studio.
The upcoming volume promises to deliver a spectrum of narrative styles, ranging from high-octane action sequences to contemplative storytelling, consistently challenging and expanding the boundaries of the Star Wars narrative landscape.
