Horse Racing Betting Tips for Tuesday November 23rd:
SOUTHWELL JOCKEYS
Trainer Donald McCain has been in fine form of late but Southwell has rarely been a happy hunting ground for him. His full record over jumps here is just 11 winners from 129 runners (8.5% strike-rate) for a loss of £78.29 to a £1 level stake at SP. The expected numbers of winners was much higher (19.56) and it could be worth opposing both his runners today – BROTHER PAT, the 15-8 favourite with Spreadex for the handicap chase at 12.50 and O’HANRAHAN BRIDGE, a 5-1 shot with Spreadex in the handicap hurdle at 2.25. Both are ridden by THEO GILLARD, so selling him (the market was set at 17.5-19.25 at the time of writing) in the SOUTHWELL JOCKEYS market is the preferred angle. Coincidentally, both McCain runners are number 1 on the racecard, so a sell of SOUTHWELL RACECARD No.1s is another option (the market is set at 62-66).
Recommendation: Sell THEO GILLARD in Southwell jockeys market
SEDGEFIELD 2.15
First the bad news GRAND ENTERPRISE is difficult to win with. Now the good news, he’s incredibly consistent and rarely finishes out of the frame. The veteran was a big eyecatcher at Market Rasen three runs back, finishing second of 12 despite racing on the slower ground on the inside rail. He’s placed in both subsequent starts and the tempo of an amateur riders’ contest should suit. They often go too hard in these races and his patient running style could be at an advantage. As ever, with the innovative Spreadex website we have multiple options to side with him. Backing him each-way at 13-2 in the fixed odds betting is the simplest option, though a place-only bet at 11-8 makes plenty of appeal. Those wishing to take the spread betting option can buy at 12 in the 50-25-10 market.
Recommendation: Back GRAND ENTERPRISE in Sedgefield 2.15
WOLVERHAMPTON 4.30
The inside rail is often the worst place to be at Wolverhampton, putting those drawn in stall 1 at a disadvantage. The bias is especially strong in big fields (ten or more runners) over the 9.4f trip, with just seven winners from 196 runners since the beginning of 2018 (3.6% strike-rate, -£159.42 to a £1 level stake at SP. The expected numbers of winners was 16.16, making this a statistically significant sample, and it could be worth opposing current favourite AEROSPACE (stall 1 of 12) in the 4.30 race. His sire, Sea The Stars, gets plenty of winners at Newcastle, the other Tapeta venue, but they don’t fare so well here.
Recommendation: Oppose AEROSPACE in Wolverhampton 4.30
