Andrew Garfield to Star as Richard Branson in ‘Hot Air’

Andrew Garfield to Star as Richard Branson in ‘Hot Air’

Despite announcing a hiatus from acting back in April, Spider-Man: No Way Home star Andrew Garfield is now confirmed for the limited series Hot Air, portraying Virgin Group founder Richard Branson. According to a new report from Deadline, the British actor will be joining the streaming series that follows the business mogul’s rise to wealth through the creation of Virgin Airways.

The story is based on the book Dirty Tricks by the award-winning investigative journalist Martyn Gregory and Deadpool 2‘s David Leitch will be directing alongside writer Jon Croker, whose previous works include Paddington 2.

Founded in 1984 with just one leased airplane, Branson soon became a threat to British Airways by 1990, making his way to obtain landing slots at London Heathrow Airport. As a way to quash its competition, BA started a “dirty tricks” campaign that involved its own employees impersonating Virgin staff in order to obtain inside information while persuading customers to choose BA instead. Despite these efforts, Virgin continued to grow into the conglomerate it now is.

Unfortunately, Hot Air has no release window just yet, so those interested should stay tuned for more updates to come.

Elsewhere in entertainment, David Kaluuya confirms that live-action Barney is still in early development.
