André 3000 Says He Hasn’t Found Music “Inspiring” Enough For Him Rap To

André 3000 Says He Hasn't Found Music "Inspiring" Enough For Him Rap To

André 3000 further opened up about the possibility of a new rap album, almost reiterating the same sentiments he’s been sharing the past few years.

In a new interview with CBS Mornings‘ Anthony Mason at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La recording studio, 3 Stacks explained that he hasn’t found anything “inspiring enough” for him to return to rap, despite the fact that he himself would “love” to create a rap album. “I write down ideas and lyrics all the time. And maybe I haven’t found the music that’s inspiring enough for me to want to write raps to, or maybe I got to find a new way to rap. If I don’t feel like I’m doing something, it just, it don’t matter to me,” he said.

He further touched on what he considers “doing something,” clarifying that it meant “[a]ffecting something, moving something, saying some truth, revealing something, destroying something.” 3000 continued, “It gotta move a needle. Our power came from exploring…Maybe I exhausted a thing, and sometimes you have to kind of try something else.”

Elsewhere in the interview, he admitted that he doesn’t take too kindly to how people were upset about New Blue Sun (his first album in 17 years) not being a rap album. The artist understands, however, and even sympathizes, “If I were waiting for a thing for 17 years — a certain thing that I’m looking for — and something else shows up, I would probably be upset too.”
