Amazon Employee Steals $273,000 USD’s Worth of Computer Components From Warehouse

An Amazon employee by the name of Douglas Wright is now facing up to 20 years in prison after stealing computer components from the company’s warehouse.

According to a report from the Department of Justice in the Western District of North Carolina, the former operations manager pleaded guilty to mail fraud over stealing a whole range of computer components, including “internal hard drives, processors, and graphic processing units” after his criminal activity was discovered by the FBI and the United States Postal Inspection Service.

Wright shipped those items from the Amazon warehouse to his home address over the period from June 2020 to September 2021 and subsequently sold those stolen components for profit to a Californian computer wholesale company, with the merchandise valued at roughly $273,000 USD. No date has been set for sentencing just yet, but the court documents indicate Wright will now face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 USD.

Elsewhere in tech, the International Space Station will crash into the Pacific Ocean in early 2031.
