Amazon Prime Video has dropped off a new teaser trailer for its hotly-anticipated Lord of the Rings drama series, Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
The preview offers a closer look at the series’ take on Middle-earth and the creation of the rings of power during Second Age, thousands of years prior to the happenings of The Lord of the Rings. The teaser also provides a glimpse at the show’s large ensemble cast, which includes Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle and others.
“It will not just be the end of our people, but all peoples,” the teaser warns. “The past is death. We either move forward or we die with it.”
“This is a title that we imagine could live on the spine of a book next to J.R.R. Tolkien’s other classics. The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliances of Elves and Men,” co-showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay previously said in a statement. “Until now, audiences have only seen on-screen the story of the One Ring — but before there was one, there were many… and we’re excited to share the epic story of them all.”
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season one will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on September 2, with new episodes releasing every Friday. Watch the official teaser above.
