Alpine Unveils Hydrogen-Powered Alpenglow Hy6

Alpine has officially launched its Alpenglow Hy6, the brand’s latest hydrogen-powered prototype, at the 2024 Paris Motor Show. This advanced version of the Alpenglow, first introduced as a concept in 2022, features a world-first V6 engine specifically designed for hydrogen combustion.

The new twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 engine in the Alpenglow Hy6 generates 740 hp, doubling the power of its predecessor, the Hy4. The vehicle reaches speeds of over 205 mph and revs up to 9,000 rpm, delivering a sound that blends the power of traditional engines with the environmental benefits of hydrogen technology.

Alpine’s engineers collaborated with Oreca to develop this engine, which is housed in a transparent, visually striking case at the vehicle’s rear. The car’s bold aerodynamic design, including a floating rear wing and larger shark fin, complements the new engine’s power and enhanced cooling requirements. Inside, the Alpenglow Hy6 features a futuristic cockpit with bucket seats, metallic accents and a racing-inspired steering wheel. The cabin is also equipped with action-camera slots so that drivers can capture high-speed driving experiences.

The Alpenglow Hy6 demonstrates the automaker’s commitment to hydrogen-powered sports cars, potentially paving the way for hydrogen race cars at the 2028 24 Hours of Le Mans. At the time of writing, details on public availability and pricing have not yet been shared.
