I have to confess I had planned that this story would be about new styling ideas for 2022 from the spring summer collections. After completing my research for the piece, I looked through my saved images and noticed that 7 out of 8 of the styling ideas that had stood out to me all involved a pair of trousers. So here we are, this is now a story about how to wear trousers in 2022, because it’s clearly all I am paying attention to right now.
Our most-read stories of the month are pretty much all about wide-leg trousers, so clearly I’m not alone in my trouser obsession. It seems like we’re all ready to get out of the leggings and comfortable trousers, and return to more tailored styles. Designers such as Peter Do, Proenza Schouler and Victoria Beckham showed us how to incorporate tailored trousers into our wardrobes with ease. The key is to opt for a pair that will act as a staple within your wardrobe, but that will feel ultra-luxe thanks to small details and the silhouette.
Since September LYST has seen a 55% increase in searches for wide-leg trouser suits, along with a growing interest in shirts, loafers and co-ords, reflecting a move towards a more low-key luxury aesthetic. “Versatility and ease are more important than ever, and this can be achieved with basics with a twist, modern classics and muted tones, all of which are the vital pieces every wardrobe needs to help elevate the simplest of looks,” says Net-a-Porter’s Libby Jane Page. “We’re seeing our customers invest more in quality basics and timeless pieces that can be worn for seasons and even years to come, so when those pieces have an additional quirky element—they’re sold!”
When it comes to trouser trends for 2022, there is a real move towards boxier suit trousers. Designers such as Victoria Beckham and Peter Do really perfected wide-leg, high-waisted styles, either in black, white or cream.
