Opening next week at New York-based Alexander Berggruen gallery is the first solo show by up-and-coming artist, Sholto Blisset. Earlier this month, the gallery also announced that they will be officially representing Blisset in New York, and the first event to come since the news is the upcoming exhibition, Sholto Blisset: Rubicon.
The show is made up of an intimate collection of paintings featuring Blisset’s signature Impressionistic yet dream-like sceneries that envelop fictional monuments. “Bodies of water act as both borders and conjunctions, where societies are delineated and defined,” reads the show’s official press release. With each piece, Blisset aimed to explore the symbolism in Caesar’s crossing of the Rubicon river – where the exhibition lends its name – as well its “relation to the sensitivity and interconnectedness of all systems where irreversible transformations are caused by both humans and nature.”
The exhibition will be on view between January 25 – February 22, 2023, at the Alexander Berggruen gallery in New York. Preview some of the artworks from the Sholto Blisset: Rubicon exhibition above.
