Following the passing of Virgil Abloh due to a rare form of cancer, street artist Alec Monopoly has revealed a large wall mural in Wynwood, Miami commemorating the legacy of the distinguished designer and entrepreneur.
The mural’s backdrop employs the blue sky graphics from Abloh’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection for Louis Vuitton which sought to embody the idea of “Heaven on Earth,” with clouds that symbolized freedom, unity, and peace. A large illustration of Abloh in a blue LV suit, angel wings, and a halo rest front and center, while Abloh’s quote “ART IS MADE IN HINDSIGHT” rests on the left corner and Abloh’s name and life dates are printed in Off-White™ typeface on the right corner.
As Abloh chose to endure his two-year cancer battle in private, his death was a huge shock to the community of creatives which he impacted so deeply. As Louis Vuitton’s SS22 Miami presentation, which paid “tribute to the life and legacy of a creative genius,” comes to a close, the generation in which he inspired continues to honor his memory in their own mediums.
In other news, Virgil Abloh’s legacy of redefining the norm continues with project MAYBACH.
