In celebration of her No. 1 album Such Pretty Forks in the Road, Alanis Morissette invited a select few to a virtual escape room experience Thursday (Aug. 27) to find the prettiest fork in the room.
Her ninth studio album topped Billboard‘s Top Rock Albums two weeks ago (chart dated Aug. 15) following its release on July 31. But the pressure was on to follow suit and come out victorious with the missing item from her recording studio. In the 15-minute simulation presented virtually by the Anaheim-based escape room center Mission Escape Games, Amy the sound engineer misplaced the prettiest fork, and it was up to us to find it so the famed singer-songwriter could finish her album.
Morissette’s catalog lent itself nicely as various clues, from a poster of her Hand in My Pocket song to jagged little pills like her iconic 1995 album featured on a labeled chart. But upon discovering a blacklight and sticker that read the title of her song “On the Tequila” in one of the unlocked compartments, the instructions on a nearby tequila bottle commanded us to sing a Morissette classic together (our choosing was “Ironic,” or iconic I’d say) in order to progress toward victory with the sparkly utensil sitting pretty in the final box.
“Thank you for helping me find the prettiest fork in the room. I couldn’t have put this record out without you. Thank you! Love you!” the Jagged Little Pill star exclaimed in a final video message.
