Oxlade has been on a roll since the release of his hit single “KU LO SA” last year. The Nigerian Afrobeats singer recently teamed up with Dave for their “Intoxycated” collaboration.
Now, he’s returned with a compact EP consisting of just two tracks. The KATIGORI/PIANO comprises its two namesake songs, “KATIGORI” and “PIANO,” the first of which was created three years ago, prior to Oxlade’s rise in the industry.
“PIANO,” meanwhile, is more of a club song, infusing Oxlade’s Lagos Afrobeats sound with the log drum of Amapiano.
“”KATIGORI” is a three-year-old record, it was created in a space where I had fame but not success,” Oxlade said. “It was me manifesting where I am now and prophesying my future because I feel like there’s a moment in my music career where everybody will accept that I’m the GOAT.”
“On the other hand, “PIANO” is a result of all my fast-paced records that didn’t get the blessings they deserved.”
The singer said that he wants to be able to show fans both sides of himself: the thoughtful, romantic side and the upbeat, club-ready side. In tandem with the EP’s release, he also shared a music video for “KATIGORI” set on the shores of Nigeria.
