The Charles H. Wright Museum’s African World Festival turns 40 this year and the 3-day event at Hart Plaza will deliver an eclectic blend of artists and genres, ranging from local vocalists of note to nationally acclaimed performers. Legendary funk music innovators Parliament Funkadelic, featuring George Clinton, will headline the July 14-16 festival, which will also include food, music and dance from around the African continent.
Festival organizer Ingia Kai joined CultureShift to discuss the history of the festival and what to expect from this year’s events.
“We really want to provide an extra special helping, that extra cherry on top for the community who has supported and made this event last these 40 years.” — Ingia Kai, African World Festival organizer
