African stars to play Coachella 2024

African stars to play Coachella 2024

They were named alongside American stars Lana Del Rey, Doja Cat and Tyler, the Creator, who are this year’s headliners, and a host of other performers.

First held in 1999, the outdoor event is traditionally held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. African stars who have previously mounted the Coachella stage include Black Coffee (South Africa), Sampa the Great (Zambia/Australia) and Nigerians Burna BoyMr Eazi and Seun Kuti, among others.

Coachella 2024 will take place over two weekends: 12-14 April and 19-21 April.

For Tyla, whose hit ‘Water just went platinum in South Africa, the Coachella gig will be heralded by her attendance at the 66th Grammy Awards on 5 February, where she will be hoping to win the Best African Music Performance Award.

DJ Spinall and Grammy winner Tems and have become notable global names in the past few years. At Coachella 2024, they will be looking to further stamp their authority as sought-after Afrobeats names.
