adidas Football has unveiled the new official match ball of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.
The ball is entitled OCEAUNZ and it’s the ninth successive football adidas has produced for the FIFA Women’s World Cup. With this in mind, this latest ball for the upcoming tournament is the most technologically advanced to date, and it’s undergone construction to ensure it keeps up with the speed of the beautiful game.
For example, the ball has been designed to improve accuracy and consistency when it’s struck, supporting fast and precise play with maximum shape and air retention. Furthermore, the ball’s polyurethane outer texture features connected ball technology — this is a suspension system in the center of the ball that stabilizes it mid-flight.
The overall design of the ball — created by Australian and New Zealand artists, Chern’ee Sutton and Fiona Collis — features a combination of blue and green hues that are inspired by the Australian landscape, while the colors also nod to the mountains of New Zealand and Australia’s connection with the Indian Ocean. Furthermore, the cultural markings and the initials of both nations celebrate the togetherness of the countries.
Just like the World Cup in 2022, this coming tournament’s match balls will see 1% of its net sales contributed towards Common Goal’s Global Goal 5 Accelerator, a collective project to increase female participation, representation, and leadership throughout the grassroots level of the sport.
You can take a closer look at the OCEAUNZ ball above and it is available on the official adidas website now for €150 (approx. $160 USD).
In other news, Gareth Bale is set to play in an upcoming PGA tour.
