ABC News is set to air a one-hour special entitled Superstar: Kobe Bryant, highlighting the late NBA legend’s Black Mamba personality both on and off the court. The intimate portrait aims to follow the evolution of Kobe Bryant, including diving into his roots as a young, gifted basketball star to his illustrious career as a five-time NBA Champion with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Much of the story is told in his words and also goes into detail regarding the athlete’s other accomplishments such as his Oscar-winning moment and being a proud #girldad. The primetime event touches on his triumphs as well as his indiscretions, complications that arose in his personal life and his tragic death that sent the world into shock for months after.
His basketball career is heavily emphasized and Bryant’s path to becoming a lethal basketball assassin known as the “Black Mamba” is heavily dissected. Aside from his basketball prowess, the program also includes hi dedication to his family as well as the passion he had for coaching his daughter Gianna “Gigi” Bryant’s youth basketball team. Bryant was a large supporter for women’s basketball and women in sports. Interviews conducted with Jalen Rose, Caron Butler and former teammates of Bryant’s are also included. Additionally, archived interviews with Bryant will also be featured.
Superstar: Kobe Bryant airs on August 18 on ABC from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. EST. The special will be available on-demand and on Hulu the next day. Check out the trailer below.
