A24‘s TIFF-winning film Sing Sing starring Colman Domingo has an official trailer released.
The studio’s next moving drama is directed by Greg Kwedar and follows a true story of a theater troupe leader in prison, played by Domingo. Leading a group of inmates through acting to escape their incarcerations, Domingo’s character puts on a play while he seeks parole. The movie is based on a real-life rehabilitation program and even features a cast that includes actors who were formerly incarcerated. The synopsis reads, “A theater troupe finds escape from the realities of incarceration through the creativity of putting on a play in this film based on a real-life rehabilitation program and featuring a cast that includes formerly incarcerated actors.”
In the trailer, Domingo’s character goes through a clemency hearing that hears about his progression and growth as a theater leader in the program. However, the parole officer then asks if he is “acting during the interview,” which causes his expression to sink. He can be heard saying in the trailer, “The world expects brothers like you and I to walk in with our heads held down. Nah, you’ve got to walk in like a king! Everything is yours!” The film is executive produced by Colman Domingo, Clarence Maclin, Raúl Domingo, Larry Kalas, Larry Kelly, Nancy Schafer and John “Divine G” Whitfield alongside Black Bear.
