The Fader reports that Playboi (real name Jordan Terrell Carter), who was on the cover of their 2019 Summer Music issue, romantically linked up with Iggy in 2018 while he was touring. They moved in together by the end of that year.

Playboi opens up to The Fader about living with Iggy (real name Amethyst Amelia Kelly) in his hometown of Atlanta after both had moved from LA. “Once I started talking to her, I just cut off everybody,” he said at the time. It was over with.” He also described their relationship as strictly personal and didn’t involve working on music together.
June 10, 2020: Iggy reveals she gave birth to a son without naming his father
The Australian-born artist had been curbing rumors she had given birth to her and Playboi’s first son with shots of her fabulous figure, but months later, she finally lets the cat out of the bag. “I have a son,” she writes in a message to fans on her Instagram Story. “I kept waiting for the right time to say something but if feels like the more time passes the more I realize I’m always going to feel anxious to share news that giant with the world.”
One month later, she lets the world hear baby Onyx for the first time with an adorable audio clip labeled “Amethyst & Onyx,” a gem of a name for the mother-son duo.
Oct. 24, 2020: Iggy posts first pics of Onyx and says she’s raising him on her own
After the 30-year-old rapper shared the first photos of baby Onyx, she clears the air about her relationship status with the 24-year-old rapper and confirms they were no longer together. “You lost a real 1,” she writes on her IG Story. “People take loyalty for granted & that’s why I’d rather be alone…. What I meant last night was that I’m raising my son alone & I’m not in a relationship.”
Oct 26, 2020: Iggy clarifies that Playboi is part of Onyx’s life
The “Fancy” artist walks her comment back and says Playboi isn’t completely absent from their child’s life. “Nothing I said was intended to make it seem like my sons father isn’t part of his life but I’ve noticed a lot of people took it that way, so I wanted to clear the air,” she says about co-parenting on her IG Story. “Onyx is so so loved by his dad & has always had both parents in his life from day 1.”
Dec. 25, 2020: Playboi drops Whole Lotta Red album on Christmas Day & Iggy slams him for missing the holidays with his son
Playboi had a lot to celebrate on Christmas with the release of his sophomore album Whole Lotta Red, but Iggy wasn’t impressed as she rang in the holidays alone with their son. Azalea launches a Twitter tirade against the fellow rapper, who attended his album release party in ATL with fellow local rapper Lil Yachty, and alleges that he cheated on her during her pregnancy and invited the same woman to the party.
“Too bad you got an album out but can’t even come to Christmas with your own son,” Iggy began writing as part of the since-deleted Twitter diatribe. “Imagine not flying out your family on Christmas but you have the girl you cheated on my entire pregnancy at your album party and magically me and my son can’t come for Christmas any more? TRASH.”
She continues to slam him for playing video games in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic on the day Onyx was scheduled to be born via C-section. “I had onyx alone completely cause he was my only visitor approved with Covid. We lived together at that time. And even tho onyx was a PLANNED baby, that we both wanted. On some weirdo sh– he has still refused to sign his birth certificate,” Iggy writes with a picture of Onyx Kelly’s birth certificate. “He’s 9 months old. Won’t even give his son he claims to care so much about his own last name. Imagine how trash you are to do this to your first born son.”
Dec. 26, 2020: Onyx joins Playboi for sleepless nights in the studio for father-son time
Team “No Sl33p” gained a new member, as 9-month-old Onyx joined his father in the studio for some father-son time one day following the release of Whole Lotta Red. Playboi posted up with his son on Twitter, showcasing how he’s starting him young in the music biz by letting him explore playing the piano in a clip that Iggy later retweeted on her own account.
Dec. 27, 2020: Iggy talks to Playboi about changing things “for the better” regarding their son and confirms they’re never, ever getting back together
The exes link up privately to discuss family matters, and Iggy takes to Twitter two days after Christmas to share that things are looking better for Onyx. “I’ve spoken to my bd [baby daddy] and as f—ed up as this sh–‘s been… it was for the best because now sh–s aired out & gonna change for the better w my son,” the “Black Widow” rapper writes.
One Twitter user urges her not to fall back into Playboi’s trap, but Iggy claps back and clarifies that she’s only giving him another chance for the sake of their son. “Girl I said he’s being accountable and we are giving him a chance to do right by his son – Not a chance to do right by me, ain’t no take backs on that!” she writes. “We done. Forever. Ever. Everrrr. Never everrr. Again. No. Nope. F— no.”
