CD Projekt Red is developing the next installment in The Witcher video game series. The new game will kick off a “new saga for the franchise,” according to the announcement.
Based on the book series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski, the first game in the main Witcher series was released back in 2007. It became a trilogy, followed by 2011’s The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and concluding with 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
While the series has three spin-off games, this forthcoming game will mark the first standalone release since the trilogy ended. The game, which is currently untitled, will also witness Projekt Red switch over from its in-house REDengine to Unreal Engine 5 as part of a “multi-year strategic partnership” with Epic Games.
Projekt Red offered no further details regarding the new Witcher game. A timeline and release date will be revealed sometime in the future.
In other gaming news, Square Enix has released a new trailer for an upcoming Fullmetal Alchemist mobile game.
