A Live-Action ‘Voltron’ Movie Is Now in the Works

According to reports, there is now a Hollywood bidding war over a live-action Voltron film currently in the works.

Following several attempts to bring the series to the big screen, Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber is now attached to co-write and direct an adaptation of the series based on the Japanese sci-fi series Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV. Studios like Warner Bros. Pictures, Universal and Amazon are among the six-seven names vying to acquire distribution rights for the move. Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman will be producing the live-action Voltron film, alongside Bob Koplar of World Events Productions, the company that currently owns the Voltron property.

Centered around a Robot Lions team of five space explorers who pilot a giant Super Robot known as “Voltron,” the original Japanese series was adapted for American audiences in the mid-1980s. The popularity of the shoe made it a pop culture icon spawning three follow-up series, several comic books and a popular line of toys.

For more entertainment news, a sequel to the Kengan Ashura anime has been announced.
